Welcome to The Heart of Walton

The Heart Public Art Competition

O&H Properties, developers of The Heart, implemented a Public Art strategy to complement the new public realm and support a positive sustainable community environment. In recognition of the town’s historical film making connections, and local associations with the film director Cecil Hepworth, O&H launched a FILM themed banner competition.

The open competition was launched nationally, to encourage the public, as well as professional artists to take an active part in the creation of The Heart banners. The competition generated great interest and as a result some truly spectacular creations. The 14 winning banners were identified in time for the opening of The Heart and are now on display along Nettlefold Walk and the inner shopping mall entrance at the High Street. There is also a film projection of clips from early film footage and stills made at Walton Studios. The film footage was compiled using archive material from Elmbridge Museum, and Screen Archive South East.

Winners of The Heart Public Art Competition are: Lisa Wilkinson, Michelle Barker, Simon David Eden R.C.A., Melanie Wade, Grace and Robin Dickinson, Kirsten Baron, Patricia Hoffman, Hannah Legge, Trevor Gray, Gerard Ivall, Celia Magennis and Julian Woolley. Each winner has been awarded a £500 cash prize.
