Welcome to The Heart of Walton

The Heart Street Naming Competition

Pauline Rideout and Sheila Manning were the two lucky winners of The Heart’s Street Naming Competition and received their prizes from The Heart Centre Manager Neil Gravett on Friday, October 23rd when the street names where made public for the first time, in time for the new shopping development’s opening on October 25th.

Pauline Rideout from Hersham was the master mind behind “Studio Plaza”; the rotunda in front of The Heart’s grand entrance and Sheila Manning from Walton came up with the name: “Nettlefold Walk” for the street running between Hepworth Way and New Zealand Avenue.

The two names were chosen in close consultation with Elmbridge Borough Council, highlighting Walton’s film heritage, the Walton Film Studios between 1899 and 1961. There were several entrants who came up with the winning names and the final prize winners were determined by an independent draw.

Pauline Rideout wanted to keep Walton’s heritage alive and thought that “Studio Plaza” would commemorate all the major U.S. stars, including Bette Davis, who frequented the studios over the years.

“It’s not about the prize; it’s just so wonderful to be part of naming a historic site. I am so thrilled” said Sheila Manning, who decided to draw upon the actual name of the film studio to produce “Nettlefold Walk”.
